Five Sessions by Jaimie Estades. Directed by Eddie Torres

“Five Sessions” follows a 24-year-old recent Ivy League graduate and therapist, and her first client, a blue-collar political activist. Both adapted into a book and play, FIVE SESSIONS has had a significant impact on the community. Directed by Eddie Torres, FIVE SESSIONS premiered at reputable theatres such as JULIO DE BURGOS and Latea Theatre. The show additionally was awarded $18,000 to be utilized as a university class based on the play itself. Thus, making Five Sessions one the first plays in Social Science to become a 15 sessions class. Below see the original play performed without a set in 2016. (All the Credits are in You Tube page). The play will also be shown this Sunday in a 3 hour session at the International Psych Historical Association Conference.

“Where You From? What You Be About?” Written and performed by Eric Aviles & directed by Eddie Torres.

“Where You From? What You Be About?” is an autobiographical solo play set in the historically Puerto Rican neighborhood of Humboldt Park, Chicago. This play won the 2018 New York Innovative Theatre Awards for “Outstanding Original Full Length Script.”Seamlessly moving from the past to present, “Where You From? What You Be About?” tells a story of how one man and his family reconciles the influences and subsequent death of a family member due to gun and gang violence. A cousin’s funeral becomes the catalyst for confronting a buried truth, for facing the effects of growing up surrounded by poverty, violence, and the need for healing.

“MACBETH” - Next Chapter Podcast/Play directed by Eddie Torres

Edward Torres directs a Latinx cast into the dark corners of the human psyche through Migdalia Cruz’s rendering of Macbeth, featuring the hidden talents of drag superstars Manila Luzon, Monét X-Change, and Ms.Peppermint; with sound design and original composition by David Molina.

“El Borracho” by Tony Meneses. Directed by Eddie Torres at the Old Globe Theatre

Raul is ill. He drinks, because he always drinks, just like el borracho on the lotería card. In his final months, Raul moves in with his ex-wife, who swore she’d never see him again, and their son, who’s longing to connect with his father at last. Developed as part of the Globe’s 2020 Powers New Voices Festival, the world premiere of Tony Meneses’s vibrant dramedy follows one family’s journey to come together so they can finally say goodbye.

“BREATHE” - By Stephanie Berry, Candido Tirado, & Cassandra Medley. Directed by Eddie Torres

BREATHE is an overview of the current fraught and complex relationships between the New York Police Department (NYPD) and their constituencies, particularly people of color. New Professional Theatre and Blackberry Productions presented the show on its feet on June 17th, 2022, at Aaron Davis Hall at City College. After a successful opening night, featuring our talented group of actors, and appearances from the NYPD and the community, it was a special night that highlighted the many ways in which we can bridge the gap between the NYPD and the community.
